Check On Your Home For Water Damage

Things like floods, broken pipes, and leaking roofs can cause water damage to your house. If you know there is a chance that water has come inside your house in any area, then you need to know the signs of water damage. There are a lot of different things that can happen to your home from water damage and the sooner you determine there is a possibility of water damage, the sooner you can get someone out to fix things and prevent bigger, worse issues. Here are ways to find water damage in your house:

Look for cracks on the exterior walls

Go around the outside of your house and look for cracks in the exterior. If you find any cracks, then it means there is a chance of water damage to your foundation.

Look for cracks inside your home

Just as how you checked the exterior walls for cracks, you are going to want to do this same thing inside of your home. You want to pay especially close attention to areas near windows and doors, as these areas often exhibit cracks first when there is an issue.

Check on the condition of your windows

Look at the windows on the exterior of your home. Make sure you don't see any areas of separation around them. If you find problem areas, it may mean water is able to get inside your home when it rains.

Look at the roof

Go around the house and take a look at the roof. If you find any signs of damage to the roof, then you may have leaks in the roof. If there is damage, then make sure you go in the attic to see if there are any signs that water has come in the attic and also look for water damage or a musty smell that can signify mold growth.

Look at the ceilings

Even if you can't see roof damage, it doesn't mean you don't have a leak, so you want to look at your ceilings throughout the house. Look for any signs of bubbling or areas where there are stains.

Look at all the walls

The same way you looked at the ceilings, you want to do with all the walls. If you see paint bubbling, paint peeling, wallpaper pulling away, wallpaper bubbling, or stains, then this is indicative of water damage.

Look all the flooring

Go around the house and take a good look at the flooring. You want to look for anything out of the ordinary. Things like tile coming up, damaged grout, soft spots of flooring, bubbled flooring, or discolored flooring can all mean that there is water damage.

If you have any reason to suspect that there is water damage in your house, then you need the problem to be addressed immediately. Water damage can be very destructive to a home and can be a health hazard.

About Me

Choosing To Create A Better Home

I have always been one of those people who are really interested in making my home a better place, which is why I started looking into repair and restoration in the first place. I began thinking carefully about what I could do to make my home better, and before I knew it, things had really taken off. I started my project by working hard to rip out the ugly tile in my kitchen, and then I started focusing on repainting my entire home. It was really interesting to see how the entire space brightened up once I made those changes, and I am still grateful I started. Check out this blog for more information on repair.
