2 Ways To Keep Water Out Of Your Basement Or Foundation

If you have noticed water coming into your basement or foundation, there are some things that you can do to make sure that the water doesn't keep getting into your basement or foundation and cause damage.

Move Your Drainpipes

One of the things that you can do is to make sure that your downspouts from your gutters don't empty out right by your foundation. That's just a super easy way to let water get into your basement. So, one thing that you can do is to get extensions to put on the bottom of your downspouts so that the water goes farther out from your house. If you can't find the extensions, you can also look for cement trough that you can put right under the downspout. The depression in the trough will lead the water away from your house. You should also clean out your gutters to make sure that they are clear so that water will flow in them the way that it should.

Waterproof Barriers

Another option is to put moisture barriers down on your foundation or in your basement. There are barriers that can be placed on the outside of the walls while your house is being built that can help to deal with moisture and keep it out of your basement or foundation. However, you might not have had those put on when the house was being built because you didn't realize that there was going to be a moisture problem. Luckily, there are other options out there. One of them is a product that you can apply to the walls and floor of your basement or foundation just as if it were paint. You will have to read the directions to make sure that you get the right kind of product because there will be some that are better for masonry, while other products will work better on different surfaces. Generally, you will have to apply at least one layer of this product and make sure that it is a thick layer. You don't want it to be too thick though, because then it may have a hard time drying. Once the product has been applied and has dried, you should be able to paint over it with no problems.

If you are worried about your basement or foundation because you are seeing water in places, there are things that you can do that will make it so that the water won't be able to get in anymore. To learn more, contact a company that specializes in waterproofing services.

About Me

Choosing To Create A Better Home

I have always been one of those people who are really interested in making my home a better place, which is why I started looking into repair and restoration in the first place. I began thinking carefully about what I could do to make my home better, and before I knew it, things had really taken off. I started my project by working hard to rip out the ugly tile in my kitchen, and then I started focusing on repainting my entire home. It was really interesting to see how the entire space brightened up once I made those changes, and I am still grateful I started. Check out this blog for more information on repair.
